Nanotechnologies for Railway Machine Building

Among participants there were also management of such companies as the “Transmashholding”, “Freight One”, “Alstom Russia”, “Tatravagonka”, “Siemens”, “Uralvagonzavod”, “Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant”, the “Russian Railways” and others.
The participants discussed the issues of making of new rolling stock models with improved processing and operating characteristics, future-oriented approaches to improvement of rolling stock, adoption of advanced manufacturing sciences.
In his speech Konstantin Demetriu, as a coordinator of machine-building projects, presented innovative nanotechnological solutions which can be applied in the rolling stock production:
  • Superstrong springs, which improve freight wagons rolling characteristics;
  • Equipment, which implements micro-arc oxidation technology and electrochemical working, and treats surface so that the products acquire new operating characteristics;
  • Superhard metal-cutting tools made of nano-structured borazon and
  • RFID tags, which provide quality control of components and performance of repair works.
There was also offered a number of measures to support innovative solutions to apply them in the railway machine building. These solutions are aimed to optimize the certification requirements for innovative products and develop uniform innovations implementation standards for all market participants by means of assessing competitiveness of the innovative products and extending the terms of liability of manufacturers, operating and repair companies, which purchase and use freight wagons.
Vladimir Kutergin, Professor, PhD, Director General of the NPC “Springs”, has also taken part in the work of the “Modern freight wagons: Production and Service” panel discussion. He particularly told about technical and economic advantages of innovative superstrong springs.
New contacts have been established in consequence of meetings in the course of the EXPO 1520. They will favor effective implementation of superstrong springs into carriage engineering.
